( Directly download apps, Buy stuff, ETC.. ) Will be using a Ipod Touch 3G 8GB.

A. iTunes is not native to Linux therefore does not work well using a windows compatability layer such as WINE

Take a look at these open source options

Rhythmbox

Whats the terminal command for linux mint 4 to access lost and found?
Q. I have linux mint 4. I need to wipe my computer off of junk and reinstall. I also want to upgrade my hardrive and reinstall linux mint 7, and the latest ubuntu. I want to get the junk off manually, search and destroy, and then uninstall. I need that harddrive for my other computer, can you help me out? Linunx mint is the way to go by the way.

A. If you are looking to delete and format the Drive with Linux Mint 4.0 on it I recommend you use Gnome Partition Editor (GParted). For this operation you can run off any Ubuntu or Mint LiveCD as Gnome Partition Editor is included

How to install applications in puppy linux?

Q. Hi, please help me. I am really stuck with this. I just set up puppy linux OS I want to install some software. But whenever I click on the setup file of a software, it says something like that I don't have a run action set. Now how can I install a software in puppy linux? Thanks.

A. You have to use the puppy linux way of installing apps, not the windows way (which is look for apps on the net and download and use the windows installer).

Can I download Puppy Linux with my current computer specs?
Q. I want to stop using Windows ME and switch to Puppy Linux. But I don't know if it would work on my old PC. I have a 6.2 gig hard drive and 128.0 MB of Ram would Puppy Linux work?

A. The 6.2GB hard drive and the 128MB RAM wouldn't give you any problems. But all you have to do is download Puppy Linux and, burn it to disk, and boot the Live CD to see if it works.

You can also install Damn Small Linux if that doesn't work for some reason. I installed DSL on a system with a 4GB hard drive and only 64MB of RAM. It is very very fast and snappy on that system. When first booted, it only takes up 20MB of memory space.

Even DSL Linux would be a big step above Windows ME.

How can I boot Puppy Linux and Windows 7?
Q. I have Puppy Linux 4.3.1 and Windows 7 Ultimate. I'm trying to get Puppy Linux installed, but it's really confusing. I'll think I've finished it because it says the setup is done, but when I reset it just boots Windows. How can I dual boot?

A. http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/4622

This is a dual boot program. every time you turn your computer on it will go into it an you can choose which one.

However i have a suggestion. Go to the Ubuntu website and download Ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala. This automatically installs grub when it installs the OS. Plus it is still Linux, and it has tons more support.

Q. I don't happen to have a CD-ROM right now and I have DVD-ROMs instead and planning to burn more than one Linux ISO on it. Will it work and still boot all of them? I'm guessing I might need to use an ISO modifier to change the the kernel path for every ISO.

A. you can burn CD's(700mb disk) in a DVD burner

Whats is the best linux distro for a win98?

Q. Whats is the best linux distro for a win98? I know about Xubuntu, Fluxbuntu, DSL, Puppy linux but what is the most efficient distro for an old win 98 that will run at a good speed with lots of useful programs installed?

A. older distros if you could find them mandrake 9.0 older ubuntus, and stuff like that if your box wont support modern distros
as far as live cds I love old knoppix 3.3

What is the best linux distro for web development?
Q. Hi, i'm beginning to use linux and was just wondering what the best linux distro for web developing is.

A. Technically there is no distro specifically designed for web development. You could pick whatever distribution you are comfortable with and then just download the tools used for web development to that Distro. That's one of the best things I like about Linux is its power and its ability to be customized. It really comes down to personal preference.

What was the linux distro that specialized in gaming/geared towards gamers?
Q. I cannot remember what the distro was called, i read about on digg during the past year but cannot find anything about it. If someone knows of the linux distro for gaming please tell me, otherwise just list the distros which best support gaming. One of my friends asked about it and I said I'd find it for him.

A. You might be thinking of Games Knoppix, which is a variant of Knoppix. Here's a URL if you want to check:
http://www.games-knoppix.org/

Otherwise, I'd recommend you simply install one of the Debian Linux distros, such as Knoppix or Ubuntu and then just look on the Debian web site for the lists of packages and look under games. You could then install the ones you wanted to look at. Good luck.

How to capture C and CPP files in the linux operating system?

Q. I am new to linux and have been trying to figure this out forever for a homework assignment! I am supposed to use appropriate linux commands to capture all "C or CPP" files in the linux operating system and make a list of the files. I am using Xubuntu. I am a beginner and could use any advice! Thanks!

A. What does it mean to capture a file??

If you mean to find the files and list the results, use the 'find' command to search for *.c and *.cpp files in the whole system. You will get the result on the screen, and you can redirect the output to a file.

To find *.c files:
find / -name *.c

To find *.cpp files:
find / -name *.cpp

Explanation: the "/" means to start the search at the top of the file system, meaning that the search will include all the system. The "-name" means to search by name, and "*.c" is the file pattern you want to find.

To redirect the output, use "> output_file" for example:
find / -name *.cpp > output_file

Hope it helps. See the manual page 'man find' to learn more.

What other color of death screens for a computer are there?
Q. I knew of blue and have just recently found out about the red screen. I'm not computer savvy so I don't know a whole lot about them.

Are there any other colors of death for a computer screen?

A. The Blue Screen of Death (also called BSOD, BAD for Blue And Dead, stop error, or bluescreen) is a common name for a screen displayed by the Microsoft Windows operating system when a system error occurs. At times a Red Screen of Death (RSoD) may appear, as seen on the Windows 2008 server and a few beta builds of Windows, such as Memphis or Longhorn. It defines very critical hardware errors or boot errors.
The Black Screen of Death is usually one of four things: a failure mode of Microsoft Windows 3.x, the screen displayed by the OS/2 operating system in the event of either a system error from which it cannot recover or a "hard" error in a program running in "full screen" mode (the former being a serious system failure but the latter being a less serious application failure), the Nintendo Wii's non-recoverable brick screen, or the Linux Black Screen of Death. Later versions of the Xbox 360s E74 error are also considered a Black Screen of Death.
The Red Screen of Death is used in some game consoles and in early beta versions of Windows Vista. It also appears in recent versions of Lotus Notes, but does not appear full-screen. Such screens are bright red boxes with black borders.
The Purple Screen of Death is used by VMware ESX Server, a server virtualization product by VMware, Inc. It is displayed in the event of a fatal kernel error. The screen provides error codes that can be used for debugging purposes.
The White Screen of Death may represent different types of failure on several different operating systems and BIOSes, including Apple iPhones and iPods.[1]
A kernel panic is used primarily by Unix and Unix-like operating systems: the Unix equivalent of Microsoft's Blue Screen of Death. It is used to describe a fatal error from which the operating system cannot recover.
A Sad Mac is an iconic symbol used by older-generation Apple Macintosh computers, starting with the original 128K Macintosh, to indicate a severe hardware or software problem that prevented startup from occurring successfully. A similar symbol exists for the iPod.
The Bomb icon is a symbol that was displayed when a "classic" Macintosh operating system (pre-Mac OS X) program had an application crash.
The Row of Bombs screen is used on TOS-based systems to indicate a critical system error.
Guru Meditation is the name of the error that occurred on early versions of the Amiga home computers when they crashed.
The Sad Tab occurs when a web page crashes in Google Chrome. The page looks similar to the Sad Mac found in Macintosh computers.

How to fix the blue screen of death on a dell windows 7 coumputer?
Q. I need help, my windows 7 got the blue screen if death and it tells me that it needs to shut down to prevent damage and its hard trying to fix it because it only take 2 minutes to say it again and I can't format it because if that blue screen of death doesn't happen then the computer ends up freezing and I don't want to format it and don't say I should of backed everything up because I only had it for 2 weeks and never went on the Internet before on it and how the hell did I know it was gonna get the blue screen of death in 2 weeks on a brand new computer?

A. These are symptoms of a hardware problem. Test your hardware before spending anymore time with the software. If it is a hardware failure, no amount of tweaking the software will fix it.
Possibly this is due to overheating. Are you overclocking, or is there a lot of dust?
Possibly this is due to faulty capacitors. Research "capacitor plague" for more information.
Boot to a Linux distro on a thumb drive to verify that this is hardware related and has nothing to do with windows. Try Puppy Linux.

These symptoms can also be caused by an unstable power source. If your wall outlet is constantly dropping voltage for whatever reason, this can be just as bad as a voltage spike. A UPS (uninteruptable power supply) will protect it from further damage and is just nice to have even if this isn't the cause.

how do i install heroes of newerth for linux mint?

Q. I am a complete noob on linux and I need some help. After I download HON for linux and I try to open it, it says I need to open with an appilcation, I have no idea how to do that, please help.

A. Was the file you downloaded a compressed file? More than likely it was and you don't have a program to decompress the file. To expand compressed file (decompresses) you can use and gzip -d, bunzip2 (bzip2 -d), unzip commands. See the link below for more info. that should help you out.

How to install linux on a virus-infected computer?
Q. So, I unzipped the files I downloaded from Ubuntu. Then I burned them on a blank DVD. Now, I'm trying to run it on my other computer, and it doesn't work. When I put the disk into my laptop, it asks me if I want to run the wubi install. I'm trying to install it right on my hard drive.

A. Oh boy here we go(this is gonna be long, but I love to send people away from Windows and into Linux).
OK SO, when your pc boots up hit ESC as soon as you see the computer manufacturers logo(Dell, HP, Compaq, Acer, whatever it is). Then depending on your computer you will want to look around for the "Boot Sequence" Once you find it, put your "Internal CD/DVD-ROM" device on the top. then, insert the dvd then reboot, you should automatically boot to the Ubuntu DVD.
Good luck
Linux Rocks btw.

How to make an Apache Server using Linux?
Q. Hi I am using linux debian on an old imac g3. I have gotten the web server up to a point where I can see the 'It Works' page but now what? I want to add Joomla to it but I don't know how to make it load like cpanel does. Help!

A. a) Download Joomla
cd /var/www
sudo wget -c http://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/14659/64120/Joomla_1.6.3-Stable-Full_Package.zip
sudo unzip Joomla_1.6.3-Stable-Full_Package.zip
sudo rm index.html
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data *
b) Setup MySQL & phpmyadmin
sudo apt-get install mysql-server
sudo wget -c http://iweb.dl.sourceforge.net/project/phpmyadmin/phpMyAdmin/3.3.10/phpMyAdmin-3.3.10-all-languages.tar.gz
sudo tar xvfz phpMy*
sudo mv phpMy* phpmyadmin
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data phpmyadmin
sudo mv phpmyadmin/config.sample.inc.php phpmyadmin/config.inc.php
sudo nano phpmyadmin/config.inc.php
During the installation, it will ask you for the mysql password. set it, and remember it.

Now,
At this point, add something to the part where it says you need to add something for blowfish authentication. Just type a whole load of random characters.

Press Control + X to save.

visit http://< web server address >/phpmyadmin

login with username 'root' and the password you set before.

Create a new database named "joomla"

Now, visit http://< web server address >
Your database name is the one you just created.
User is "root"
password is the password that you set.

Its not exactly secure to use the root account, but as your only using it for personal purposes, it doesn't matter much.
