how do I retrieve files from broken computer?
Q. My Dell Desk top that i've had for 7 years broke the other day. Every time i try to start it i get the blue screen of death. I got a new computer but i wanted to know how do i get all my old music, photos and what nots off my old computer.
I cant turn the old compute on with out it crashing, so how do i get the files?

A. Remove the old hard drive and plug it into the new computer as a slave/secondary drive.

If you have an IDE HDD, then there shouldn't be a problem, since most modern motherboards support both IDE and SATA. Just use the appropriate cables. However, if you have SATA connectors on your motherboard only, then you can buy an IDE>SATA adapter.

If your HDD is SATA, then it's as simple as plugging it in as a secondary drive and copying the old files over.

Connect, navigate, and copy your old files.

Another option would be to use a Linux Live CD such as Slax. You can download it (free), burn it in your second PC, and boot it from the cd drive of your old PC. Go into the old HDD and copy any files over to a flash drive/ external HDD.

How do I get Linux to connect to the Internet?
Q. Okay, this is not the first time I have had this problem. I decided to install OpenSuse 11.0 on top of Windows dual boot, and the Linux OS won't connect to the Internet but Windows will. Any ideas?

A. OpenSUSE is a built more for corporate use, I'd really recommend getting Ubuntu if you don't wish to configure everything to get it to run.. Search your ethernet card's / wireless card's name on google, and look for the linux drivers, there should definately be guides floating around, hit and miss sometimes though. Done it before many times..
